Tales from the Table: Competitive Gruel Truck at QC Game Fest

Gruel Truck

When we were first putting Gruel Truck together, playing it with two to three trucks was not the original plan. It was a spontaneous sort of thing because of a large number people who turned out to playtest the original game. Based on the amount of fun shared by everyone, we knew we had to include rules to allow people to play Competitive Gruel Truck with groups of eight to twelve.  It was a lot of fun but we’re not going to lie, we were never sure if anyone would run a competitive game at a game convention besides us.

Oh, how wrong we turned out to be. Our buddy Bryan Nash not only embraced Gruel Truck but vowed he would run the Competitive version at his local game convention, QC Game Fest.  And he did it in style, friends. Not only did he have plenty of paper hats to go around, he himself had a special apron made (shown) with the “Fries En Garde! Orc”. And being a whacky sort, he managed to have four, count them, four different food trucks going. That’s a lot of work, but he did it. Here’s how it went:

Four full teams vied for supremacy in the Gruel Truck War for Middle Earth. It was a very close race, but in the end, Team Deep Fried Eyeballs squeaked past team Gruella De Ville for the win! Team Secret Ingredient survived all the way to the end, but team Lord of the Onion Rings lost their truck in the fifth round and had to watch the finale from the sidelines.

We were loud, raucous and rowdy. It was hilarious. It was every bit as much fun as I hoped it would be. I can’t wait to do this again. That was AWESOME fun, David! Wish you were here to see your game in action.

Thank you, Bryan! You are hereby promoted to Grill Commander! Let us know how your game of Gruel Truck goes, we’d love to hear about it!
